How To Get Vexcalibur In Destiny 2 Lightfall | //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// Exotic Mission Guide

If you’re looking for how to get Vexcalibur in Destiny 2, you’ve come to the right place. In the second week of Season of Defiance, we were finally given another secret Exotic quest. This mission is similar to how Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected’s secret missions were unlocked back in the early years of Destiny 2.

To obtain the Vexcalibur, an exotic Glaive with a unique Vex theme, you must first find and finish the //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// secret mission, which is hidden in plain sight! This secret mission will be tied to The Variable exotic quest, and upon completion of it all, you’ll have in your hands a brand new exotic Glaive.

The secret mission is pretty straightforward, but in any doubt, this guide will showcase how to start The Variable quest and how to start and complete the //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// exotic mission.

How To Get Vexcalibur in Destiny 2

Activate six Vex cubes in The Gulch in the EDZ to unlock the exotic mission;
Complete the //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// exotic mission;
Visit the War Table in the H.E.L.M.

How To Start The Variable Quest

Unlike how we used to unlock the Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected quest, Vexcalibur’s quest is a hidden secret, as it cannot be purchased from any vendor or activity.

To start this exotic quest, you have to travel to The Gulch in the EDZ, where you’ll need to find and interact with six floating Vex cubes scattered across the area.

When you get close to a cube you’ll gain an Access Code and you’ll have 30 seconds to find another cube or you will have to start over. You can find all 6 cubes in any order, you just have to be quick and pay attention to the timer between one cube to another.

Interacting with all six cubes will end the timer and a huge Vex portal will appear in the sky.

Right below the Vex portal will be a hidden cave with a new unlocked pathway to a Harpy where you’ll be able to start the //NODE.OVRD.AVALON// mission.

Enter The Vex Network

As you start this mission, you’ll find yourself in the depths of the Vex Network, you’ll need to jump down to access a gravity lift that will take you lower until finally reach a room that is blocked off by multiple walls, look for a small gap in the bottom of the room, it will open and close, and slide across.

Then follow the flow of Vex fluid, and you’ll come across two Harpies. Kill them and search for a tiny space in the wall, go through it, and keep going down until you face the first encounter.

Enter The Access Codes

At the start of the encounter, a Vex data pillar will appear at the center of the arena with some symbols next to it. Your objective is to shoot the symbols in the correct sequence.

Next to the center pillar will spawn every few seconds three symbols, a cube, a diamond, and a pyramid. And if you look around the room you will encounter a sequence of these symbols.

Then you’ll have to destroy the symbols next to the center pillar in that order from top to bottom. This will be the main mechanic for these encounters.

When you destroy a symbol wait a few seconds and more three symbols will appear, also, failing to destroy the symbols in the correct order will reset your progress and randomize the sequence.

You can take your time and deal with the Vex as there is no time limit between destroying the symbols.

After entering the correct codes three times, you will be able to progress with the mission, and then yet again you’ll have to repeat the same process while trying to survive the hoard of Vex.

Explore The Vex Network

Just like the first part of the mission, you will have another jumping puzzle for this part. This section will have some tricky walls that will push you off when you pass if you’re not careful, try to progress only right after the walls close and be quick. After that, you’ll reach the next encounter.

Defeat The Data Nullifier

This encounter will have another mechanic, after a small amount of time everything will be wiped, and for you to survive you’ll have to safeguard yourself in a hole in the center of the room.

In the center of the room will be a Vex pillar and you’ll have to kill the headless Goblins that spawn around the area as they will drop motes, just like Gambit you will have to collect the motes and deposit them in the central Vex pillar.

There will be a time limit to collect and deposit all the necessary motes, as it will say in the mission tab. When you deposit the number of motes necessary, the hole will open right below the pillar, then jump down there and wait for the wipe to be cleared.

You’ll have to repeat this mechanic two times and then the Data Nullifier boss will appear, but once you take some of its health it will retreat. Then you’ll have to repeat the same mechanic two more times, and this time more motes will be needed, after that the boss will spawn again and you can defeat it.

Enter The Node Core

After defeating the Data Nullifier boss, you can continue the mission by following the path behind the boss spawn.

This will be another jumping puzzle section with more traps that will push you off the way you need to go, so be careful and quick, after that you’ll reach the final encounter.

Defeat Brakion

Brakion is the final boss of the Pyramidion strike from Destiny 2 year 1, now content vaulted. This time to defeat Brakion you’ll have to use the same mechanics as the first part of the mission.

When you get close to the Vex portal the encounter will begin and Brakion will appear, in this first phase you just have to take some health of the boss and it will retreat, then you have to follow it through the Vex portal to begin phase two.

In phase two you’ll need to do the code mechanic again, the boss will be protected by Vex barrier, and you need to take them down by entering the code in the pillar in the middle of the arena.

When you first enter the arena the pillar will not be there, you’ll need to first kill the major Hydra and then the pillar will appear in the center. With that, the code sequence will also appear on the ground in each corner of the area beside the boss.

Enter the correct code, which this time will have 5 symbols, and then you’ll be able to take damage to the boss, after taking the amount of health from the boss for this phase, you’ll have to do the mechanic again and then the boss will retreat and you have to follow it through the portal.

Now in the final phase, you can now kill the boss, there will be no mechanics and you can just defeat the boss but this time it will come after you and you’ll have almost no cover. When the boss is almost out of health it will lose its head and reveal a critical spot on its chest.

When you’ve defeated Brakion and completed the exotic mission, you just have to return to the H.E.L.M., and interact with the War Table to receive the Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive.
