But note that you must own the Season of the Chosen to be able to start this quest.

How To Get Destiny 2 Dead Man’s Tale Quick Guide
- Find the Distress Signal;
- Speak with Zavala;
- Complete the Presage mission;
- Speak with Zavala.
Find The Distress Signal
To Start the Dead Man’s Tale Exotic quest you will have to first go and find the Distress Signal inside the Arm’s Dealer Strike.
Start the Arm’s Dealer Strike from your Directory, and when you begin the strike, clear out the first room with enemies, and then instead of going the normal way you will have to go to the right through a new open door.

Once you go through the now open door on the right you will have to kill some cabal and turrets until you reach the final landing platform where you can grab the Distress Signal.

When you get the Distress Signal you can complete the strike or just leave immediately.
Then travel back to the Tower, go speak with Zavala and he will give you The Voice on the Other Side Quest. With that done you will unlock the Presage mission.

How To Complete The Presage Mission

Once again open your Directory and in the Tangled Shore, you will now see a new Exotic quest on the map.
The Presage mission is filled with backtracking puzzles and you will have to flip a bunch of levers to complete this mission.
We will explain all the mechanics here to help you figure out what you will need to do in each section of the mission.
Also, you should know that the Presage mission is a 1250 activity, so if you are above 1230 power you should be good to go.
But the enemies will be hard to defeat no matter how high your Power level is, as the mission forces you to be under level.
Landing Area
Once you land on the cabal ship, you will have to turn around and go through the jumping puzzle on the right side of the ship.

Progress through the jumping puzzle around the ship until you find an entrance.
Once you are inside the ship you will have to shoot some vents to be able to progress.
Eventually, you will arrive in an open room where there will be a lever that you can activate to open the big entrance door from where you landed in the beginning.

The Spores

When you reach the other side of the big entrance door, on the other side of that room there will be another door that has a wall of dust that will burn you if you touch it.
So to pass through it you will have to get close to the blue spores to the left side of the door and shoot them to get the Egregore Link buff.

That buff lasts for 15 seconds and with it, you will be able to pass through the doors that have the wall of dust.
After you pass that door jump to the pipes on the left side and go forward until you reach a vent, shoot it, and keep going forward until you reach an electric fence.

The Electric Fence

Once you get to the electric fence, before you jump to the other side, turn around and go through that path.
Defeat the enemy Scorn and at the end of that area, there will be a lever that you will have to pull.

The lever will open a nearby door next to the electric fence that contains the blue spores, shoot them to get the buff, then jump across to the other side and go through another wall of dust.

After that, you will have to jump across again and shoot the blue fuse located in the red pillar, which will open a door to a lower level.

In this lower level, you will have to defeat more scorn and in the back of the room, there will be another lever that you will have to activate.

That lever will open one of two doors on the opposite side of the room, in this case, it will open the upper door.

Go through that door and then jump across to the other side and activate the lever that is in the back of the pillar.

That lever will open the bottom door that was previously closed, so backtrack to that door and it will have a blue fuse that you will have to shoot.

Then go again through the upper door and jump down to a platform with a door in the middle that will now be opened and head down that door.

The Trash Compactor
Once you head down that door you will fall into the trash compactor.
Here you will have to activate the lever and as you do that the walls will start to slowly close on you and some enemies will spawn.

To save yourself from being smashed by the walls you will have to shoot the vents on the floor as some of them will have blue fuses.

Shoot the blue fuses and it will open a door in one of the vents on the floor for you to escape.

Once you get to that lower level proceed through the vents until you reach the first combat area.
You will be able to see the final Boss in this area but he will quickly disappear, kill all the Scorn and move into the next combat area, and as before defeat all the Scorn and prepare yourself for the next jumping puzzle.
The Maze
After you defeat all the enemies in this combat area, you actually want to look outside towards the space side and as you can see there’s another jumping puzzle along the side of the ship that takes you to a different hangar.

When you enter the new hangar, simply climb on top of the ship and head through the upper passageway.

Then you’re going to drop down into a room where there is a door that opens, but it’s a wall of dust.

So you have to kind of backtrack to the back corner of the room where you will find a lever to activate that will open up a door that contains the blue spore, so you can shoot it and get through the wall of dust.

After that, you’re going to progress to another room that kind of has the same problem, another wall of dust that you can’t pass through, but this time you will have to first go through the electric fence that is above that room.

So what you need to do is near the back of the room there is another leaver behind the pillar that you have to activate and once you activate the lever, it will open a door that has a fuse behind it.
Shoot that fuse and it will disable the electric fence, but it will disable it for just a few seconds, so you need to be really quick when you’re doing it.

Once you get through the electric fence, just on the right side of that room there is another lever to activate, and then at the left side of that room, there is a hallway that leads to another lever to activate that will lead you to the same room that you just were.

However, there is now a new door open that has a blue spore that you can shoot and head to the original wall of dust that you weren’t able to head through previously.

This brings you to another room, but this time with a bunch of scorn and the same puzzle, so this time you’re going to see that the wall of dust is on the ground, so you are supposed to fall through it.

So look for the lever that will be next to the wall of dust on the ground and when you activate it that’s going to open a small door kind of in the middle of that room.

There will be a turret behind that door, shoot it, and inside that door, there will be a blue fuse to shoot.

Once you shoot the fuse, this will open a new door almost in the back of the room, search for the new doorway that opened which is going to contain the blue spores, that will let you then head down that wall of dust that you saw earlier on the ground.

Now when you fall down that hole on the ground, there will be kind of a big maze area where you have to shoot through a bunch of vents and there are a lot of different passageways.
So where you originally fall down you will have to shoot the vent on the right and there will be a blue spore inside, shoot it to get the buff, and then go through the vent right in front of the one you were now.
Head down that hallway until you can take your first left, then you’re going to have to turn left again and then turn right and right again.
You can guide yourself through the video below for a better understanding!
Once you have passed the wall of dust, there will be a lever for you to activate.
Continue from there and it’s actually going to lead you into an area that you already have been, but this time there is a new open door right on the left side of the room with a wall of dust, so just shoot the nearby spores and pass through that doorway.

This leads you to another room with a bunch of different Scorn and yet again there is another wall of dust and another lever in the back corner of that room that you will need to activate.

Then near the lever, there is actually a tiny little area that has opened up behind the pillars and there is a blue fuse in there for you to shoot.

Then at the opposite side of that room, there will be opened a new door with spores to shoot and pass through the wall of dust to the next area.

Once you pass the wall of dust, there is another spore, but you’re not going to need to hit that new spore yet.

In this new room you will have a kind of a jumping puzzle, so progress through that room until you reach the end where there will be another wall of dust and beside it another lever.

Activate that lever and it will open a door right in front of it with a turret, so kill the turret.

And kind of in the middle of the room there will be a blue fuse, shoot it, and it will open up another door in the center of this room that contains another wall of dust and behind It a spore.

So what you need to do is backtrack to the entrance of this room and shoot the spore right next to it.
Then press forward until that newly opened door in the center of the room, pass through the wall of dust and shoot the spore inside to extend your buff timer, otherwise, you won’t have enough time.
And then get back outside and make your way till the end of that room and pass the wall of dust.
The Locus of Communion Boss

After all of that, you have finally made it to the final boss fight, and it can be pretty tricky and with some mechanics.
To begin with, the room has two floors, the upper floor and the boiler room below.
When you start the boss fight and you clear out all the enemies, the boss will disappear, however, he will just be hiding in the boiler room, but you cannot go there because you will die from burning and the boss will be immune.

So what you need to do at this time is to look for some levers on the first floor, there are three levers, two of them are pretty easy to find, there is one on each side of the room.

However, the third lever is a bit more difficult to activate, there is a hot room also on the first floor and you will also die from burning once you enter there.
So wait until you have full health and run in that room to activate the lever as quickly as possible.
You also may want to activate this lever last, as the heat will turn off as soon as you’ve activated the lever.

Once you have activated all three levers the heat in the boiler room will stop and you can go down there and damage the boss.
If you get in trouble down there you can always jump back up for safety, and when you damaged the boss to two-thirds of his health, the heat will come back up in the boiler room.
So jump back up to the upper room and repeat the process until you have killed the boss.
When you defeat the boss, you can exit that room and see what’s left of the missing Guardian, and steal the Dead Man’s Talon.

After you complete the Presage mission you just have to go to the Tower and speak with Zavala to pick up your new Exotic scout rifle.
